Crystal Palace are reportedly pursuing Hull City defender James Chester.

According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace have been told they must pay £8m if they want to sign Hull City defender James Chester this summer.

The Eagles have enjoyed a productive summer so far, bringing in goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, midfielder Yohan Cabaye and striker Patrick Bamford.

Alan Pardew’s men are looking to push on and cement a top ten place next season, but still need to bring in more reinforcements – particularly at centre back.

The Daily Mail report that Palace are hoping to sign Hull City defender James Chester following the Tigers’ relegation to the Championship – but have been told to pay up for the 26-year-old’s signature.

The report states that Hull will only sell the Welsh international in a deal worth £8m, which may be deemed a little expensive for the former Manchester United prodigy.

How much to Palace need a new centre back?

Palace are looking to strengthen this summer, and having added a goalkeeper, a midfielder and a striker, defence is the next logical area for Pardew to target.

With solid full back options in Joel Ward, Martin Kelly and Pape Souare, Pardew now needs to find a long-term partner for Scott Dann at centre back.

Damien Delaney is in his 30’s now, and Chester would offer a younger option for Palace, who still has potential to grow with more exposure to Premier League football after a decent campaign with Hull last season.
