Crystal Palace have joined FC Porto in the race to prise Marco Silva away from Hull City to be their new boss, following the surprising news that Sam Allardyce would be retiring from management, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Silva has only been with Hull since January, but performed admirably with the club – who were complete doomed and resigned to relegation prior to the 39-year-old’s arrival, but eventually only went down by six points.

It seems certain that he will not be managing in the Championship with Hull next season, and FC Porto have already spoken to Silva as they plan to make him their new manager ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Palace are very keen to discover just how far down the line talks are with the Portuguese giants, who won the Champions League as recently as 2004, and if there’s a possibility that they can swoop in, they will look to do so.

While the last three games of the season were disastrous for Hull – losing 2-0 to Sunderland, 4-0 at Palace and then 7-1 to Tottenham Hotspur, Silva had led an unlikely revival, and turned the KC Stadium into a bit of a fortress – winning six out of a possible nine and losing just twice on home soil.

The Eagles will be hoping that Silva feels like he has unfinished business in the Premier League and would rather have another crack at it than go to Porto, but it could be a tough ask for Palace to convince him.
