Crystal Palace will “battle it out” with Leicester City for the signing of Anderlecht defender Kara Mbodji, the Mirror reports [23 May, page 50].

Mbodji, who has been linked with both clubs previously, is said to have been told he can leave this summer to “fulfill his Premier League ambitions”.

Palace’s renewed interest is perhaps little surprise, given the uncertainty which surrounds the future of on-loan Eagles defender Mamadou Sakho.

The Frenchman shone for Sam Allardyce’s side after making the temporary switch from Liverpool in January, however the Reds are said to want £30 million to make that deal permanent [the Mail].

And Mbodji, who can play at both centre-back and in central midfield, is unlikely to cost as much as Sakho.

Palace could also move for Hamilton Academical midfielder Ronan Hughes, according to the Scottish Sun.

The versatile 18-year-old has only made six appearances for the Accies to date, but was said to be interesting Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and West Ham United.

Would Mbodji be a good alternative to Sakho for Crystal Palace?
