Crystal Palace, Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County are among the many higher division clubs keen on Chesterfield’s Gboly Ariyibi, according to Sky Sports.

Ariyibi is the subject of a failed £800,000 bid from Championship side Brentford, while Barnsley have also seen approaches turned down, the report claims.

However, it seems the pair are not alone in having identified the former Leeds United winger as a prospective new signing before Wednesday’s 11pm deadline.

Of the three newly-listed suitors, Derby’s interest would appear the most advanced, with an enquiry said to have been made – though both Palace and Wednesday could yet enter the running.

Palace have lost Yannick Bolasie to Everton this summer, while Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has admitted he wants to sign a winger this month.

American-born Ariyibi, who has played for his country at Under-23 level, has impressed since arriving at the Proact Stadium two summers ago, scoring four goals and making 11 in 66 Spireites appearances.

The 21-year-old is in the final year of his contract in north Derbyshire.
