According to a report from the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace have joined Burnley in the race to sign Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall as he continues to impress at the City Ground.

The Sun reported towards the end of last month that the 20-year-old was a player that Clarets boss Sean Dyche was a fan of as he considered potential options who could improve his defence.

However, if Burnley now want to sign the youngster – who is just one of the several first-team players who came through the ranks with the Championship club – they may have to battle their Premier League rivals for his signature, with the Daily Mail reporting that Worrall is also on Palace’s radar.

The Sun’s report last month suggested that Forest would be looking for £12 million before they sold the centre-back, but after the weekend, it would hardly be a surprise if they wanted even more.

Worrall’s game may have ended early on Sunday after he was sent off in the dying minutes but he had already helped the Championship side put themselves to within touching distance of knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup.

And with the defender just 20 years of age, it would be no surprise if the likes of Dyche and Roy Hodgson felt that he possibly had the potential to make a low eight-figure move seem like an absolute bargain at some stage down the line – and it may also not be a surprise if they soon have even more competition in the race to sign him.
