Newcastle are reportedly keen on signing Riedewald.

Crystal Palace's Jairo Riedewald

BBC Sport have claimed on their live transfer blog (08:40, Thursday) that an offer has been made for Crystal Palace defender Jairo Riedewald, who is said to be interesting Newcastle United this summer.

The Times claimed earlier this month that Newcastle were interested in landing the 21-year-old, who has struggled at Selhurst Park since joining the club from Dutch giants Ajax last summer.

Riedewald is said to have turned down a move to Championship side Swansea City earlier in the window, as he is holding out for a move to a Premier League side.

Now, the BBC have claimed via well-renowned transfer expert David Ornstein that an unnamed Premier League club have made a bid for Riedewald – which could well be Newcastle after their recent reported interest.

Riedewald can play on the left side of defence, at centre-back or indeed in holding midfield and Rafa Benitez is seemingly keen to strengthen those areas of his side.

Florian Lejeune was lost to a long-term knee injury, leaving a gap at centre-back, while Newcastle have tried to sign left-sided defenders Stanley N’Soki from PSG and Riedewald’s teammate Pape Souare.

Now, it could be that Newcastle have made an offer for Riedewald, but one thing is for sure – is that the Dutchman is the subject of a bid from an unnamed club after being linked with The Toon.
