Report: Crystal Palace ready to sell Newcastle target Andros Townsend

Newcastle United had reportedly enquired about Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend’s availability.

According to a report from the Chronicle, Newcastle have seemingly received a boost in their pursuit of Andros Townsend this summer with Crystal Palace potentially willing to negotiate the winger’s sale.

The Chronicle reports that the Magpies had initially made an enquiry for their former wide-man, but Palace looked to scare off interest in the 26-year-old by telling Rafa Benitez that he was not going to be available for less £20 million.

However, it appears that the Eagles have potentially had a very quick of change of heart, with the Chronicle now suggesting that they will sell Townsend should they manage to sign Michail Antonio from West Ham – and that is likely to be music to Benitez’s ears with his budget likely to be restricted once again this summer.

The Chronicle adds that Kenedy is his first-choice winger target, but he could potentially switch his attention if the Chelsea star does not look set to make a return to St James’ Park.

It would arguably be a good move for Newcastle if they could land Townsend for a cheaper fee this summer. Like Kenedy, Townsend was excellent during his brief spell on Tyneside, and he enjoyed a very decent season at Selhurst Park last year.

The Englishman scored twice and provided seven assists in the Premier League during the previous campaign. And as Townsend will probably feel that he has unfinished business with Newcastle, he may perhaps jump at the chance to possibly return this summer and help the side build on their top-half finish.
