Crystal Palace are reportedly hoping that they will be able to convince Andros Townsend to sign a new deal after Newcastle United’s summer interest.

Crystal Palace are hoping that they will be able to quash any speculation regarding Andros Townsend and a potential return to Newcastle by handing the winger a new contract in the near future, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (16/09; page 70).

The Mirror reports that the Magpies attempted to bring Townsend back to St James’ Park during the summer window two years after selling him to the Eagles in the wake of their relegation from the Premier League.

Townsend would end up staying put, and it appears that Palace could look to tie him down for even longer. The Sunday Mirror (16/09; page 70) reports that the wide-man has three years left on his deal at Selhurst Park, but the club are hoping to extend those terms and put him on one of their most lucrative deals.

It is not clear whether Newcastle do have any plans to go back in for Townsend at any stage, but it must be noted that they seem to have been linked with the former Tottenham ace during every window since his departure.

The 27-year-old is yet to provide a goal or assist in the league so far this term, but he has looked lively for Roy Hodgson’s side and goes into this campaign off the back of a season where he contributed seven assists in the top flight.

And Hodgson will be hoping that he ends his wait for a goal or assist during the next game, which sees Rafa Benitez bring his Newcastle side to the capital. The Magpies are still looking for their first win of the campaign, while Palace could move into the top-half of the table with a victory.
