Mamadou Sakho appears to be on his way out of Crystal Palace, with L’Equipe reporting that the experienced defender is in talks over a move to Lyon.

The transfer window has not even opened but the Eagles have already seen a number of key players being linked with a move away from Selhurst Park.

Wilfried Zaha is never far away from the headlines while Vicente Guaita, one of the Premier League’s most unreliable goalkeepers, has been tipped to make a return to Spain with just a year remaining on his contract.

If reports from across the Channel are to be believed, Sakho could be the first man out of the exit door.

The 30-year-old France international struggled for consistency during an ill-fated spell at Liverpool, but has produced his finest Premier League performances since making that £26 million move to Crystal Palace three years ago.

However, after being restricted to just eight appearances in 2019/20 due to a series of injuries, Roy Hodgson’s side are now facing up to the prospect of losing one of their most expensive ever players on the cheap.

Lyon are in talks to sign Sakho, a former PSG captain. And with just 12 months until his Crystal Palace contract expires, Maxifoot suggests that a deal could be agreed for as little as £9 million – £15 million less than The Eagles paid for him back in 2017.

With Scott Dann now 33, expect Palace to reinvest that £9 million fee in a new defender or two if Sakho does bid farewell.
