Crystal Palace are reportedly still keen on Gary Cahill.
According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are still hoping to bring Chelsea defender Gary Cahill to the club on a free transfer this summer.
The Eagles made a late swoop to bring Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi to Selhurst Park, bolstering Roy Hodgson’s defensive options.
Batshuayi wasn’t the only Chelsea player Palace targeted though, as defender Cahill was also on Hodgson’s radar having worked together in the England setup.
The Sun report that Palace were hoping to land Cahill in January, but that was dependent on Scott Dann heading on to Fulham – which didn’t happen.
Palace hopes were scuppered, but it’s added that Palace still want Cahill to sign, this time targeting him on a free transfer when his Chelsea contract expires this summer.
Cahill is understood to prefer staying in London having been there for seven years now, and Palace will surely be in the box seat to secure his signature.
Cahill, 33, has struggled for playing time under Maurizio Sarri this season and will almost certainly be on the move this summer, barring a miraculous turn of events.
He could be a shrewd addition to a Palace defence which already contains Mamadou Sakho and James Tomkins, strengthening an already impressive area of the pitch for the Eagles.
