According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace have offered Ryan Fraser a £50,000-a-week contract.
The Scot left Bournemouth at the end of his contract and he is now a free agent. Fraser was one of the Cherries’ most important players and his departure before the end of the season wasn’t ideal for them, especially when they were fighting relegation.
Bournemouth dropped down to the Championship after a torrid season but Fraser is likely to remain the Premier League. Crystal Palace are said to be the favourites for his signature and their reported contract offer shows how serious they are.
Fraser was on a £27,000-a-week deal at the Vitality Stadium. The Eagles are almost doubling that but it will be interesting to see if the Scotsman agrees to the offer on the table.
The Times claimed back in June that the former Aberdeen attacker was hoping for a £100,000-a-week contract this summer. That is highly unlikely now, considering the top clubs he was linked with have bowed out of the race.
The current financial climate doesn’t help his cause either, meaning that he might just have to settle for a wage deal around the figure that the Eagles have reportedly offered him.
Newcastle have to act quick if they still want him
The Shields Gazette claimed a few days ago that Newcastle United had also entered talks with Fraser. It was claimed that Steve Bruce was a big fan of the Scottish attacker and he would love to have him at St. James’ Park next season.
With their takeover falling through, the Magpies will have to spend wisely this summer and a free agent with years of Premier League experience like Fraser would be a fantastic addition.
Palace’s contract offer will accelerate Newcastle’s process of signing him if their interest really is true. Fraser should be signing for his next club very soon considering that the Premier League restarts in just five weeks.
