Meyer is one of three midfielders being linked with a move to Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace are monitoring Max Meyer among a trio of midfielders, according to the Daily Mail.

Liverpool’s Marko Grujic and Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater are also listed as targets for Palace, who have seen Yohan Cabaye and Erdal Rakip depart since the end of last season.

Unlike Grujic and Drinkwater, however, Meyer would not command a fee after his contract with Schalke 04 expired last month.

Still only 22, Meyer was once regarded as one of Germany’s top prospects, winning the first of his four national team caps at the age of 18.

But his form has been patchy over the past few seasons, and he failed to register a single league goal or assist last term.

A move away from Schalke – the club at which Meyer has spent his entire career – could, however, help to rejuvenate the once Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur linked player.

And a no-fee deal could suit Crystal Palace, who look to have reined in the spending this summer.

Would Meyer be a good signing for Crystal Palace?
