Crystal Palace could make a left-field move for former Mexico manager Juan Carlos Osorio as the Premier League club scour the market for potential Roy Hodgson replacements, as reported by Antena 2.

The list of coaches linked with the Selhurst Park job is both long and varied, ranging from legendary former players, to up-and-coming EFL bosses, from proven Premier League tacticians to fashionable foreigners.

Osorio, however, is a name that has emerged right out of the blue.

The 59-year-old Colombian has never worked in Europe before – not as a manager at least.

Osorio did spend a brief period as the conditioning coach at Kevin Keegan’s Manchester City in 2001 and, before that, he famously spent his spare time snooping on Liverpool’s training sessions when studying for his diploma at John Moores University (Guardian).

A chance in the Premier League would be a long-time coming for Osorio, then.

The veteran South American has been out of work since leaving Colombian outfit Atletico Nacional in December.

He is perhaps best remembered for that three-year spell in charge of Mexico between 2015 and 2018; his free-flowing and well-drilled side deservedly beating Germany at the Russian World Cup.

Osorio also coached the Paraguayan national team for a couple of months while enjoying a number of spells in the MLS.
