According to The Sun, Crystal Palace have made contact with Mauricio Pellegrino as they ramp up their search for a new manager following Sam Allardyce’s departure.

The Eagles were left rocked last week as manager Allardyce resigned from his position despite only arriving in December 2016, and having kept the club in the Premier League.

After winning the battle against the drop, Allardyce called time on his spell at Selhurst Park and in management altogether, leaving Palace to consider their new move.

Now, The Sun report that Palace have made their first move for Mauricio Pellegrino by contacting the Argentinian about the possibility of taking the reins at Selhurst Park this summer.

Pellegrino, 45, impressed in his single season as Alaves boss, guiding them to a ninth placed finish in La Liga whilst also taking them all the way to the Copa del Rey final, losing 3-1 to Barcelona on Sunday – and Pellegrino resigned shortly after.

Formerly Rafael Benitez’s assistant at both Liverpool and Inter Milan, the former defender has endured a nomadic managerial career, taking charge of Valencia, Estudiantes, Independiente and Alaves, with another move now on the cards.

It’s claimed that Pellegrino is keen on a move to the Premier League, and Palace have now sounded him out over a possible deal, with Leicester City also claimed to be watching his situation.

Pellegrino played a key role in the development of two loan youngsters at Alaves this past season, giving Atletico Madrid left back Theo Hernandez and Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente valuable first-team football in an impressive Alaves side, with both players now set for huge futures at the very top of the game.

From a tactical perspective, Pellegrino tends to play a 4-2-3-1 system, but he did produce a masterclass away at Barcelona earlier in the campaign, claiming a 2-1 win at the Camp Nou with a 5-4-1 setup – two systems that could mesh well with the current talent at Palace.
