Report: Crystal Palace make approach for AS Monaco striker Guido Carrillo

Crystal Palace are reportedly on the hunt for a striker as Christian Benteke continues to misfire.

Crystal Palace have identified AS Monaco’s Guido Carrillo as the January solution to their striker crisis, according to Press Association Sport, via ESPN.

The Eagles have only scored 12 times in 17 Premier League games this season and their only recognised centre-forward – Christian Benteke – is yet to find the net.

The Belgian is 13 games without a goal and missed a stoppage-time penalty that he had seized away from Luka Milivojevic in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

Press Association sources understand that a new striker is Roy Hodgson’s top priority in the New Year and that Palace have already made an approach for Carrillo.

The 26-year-old has scored five goals for Monaco this season, including three in his last two matches to help negate Kylian Mbappe’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain.

However, 11 of his 15 appearances this campaign have been as a substitute and that could persuade Carrillo to leave Stade Louis II, where he has never been a regular.

The Press Association add that Carrillo is valued at £10m, so he would be very affordable for Palace in this market, even as a player brought in to get Benteke firing.

Benteke can be a formidable number nine when on song but is liable to long barren spells and a lack of competition for his starting spot has probably not helped his form.
