Crystal Palace have joined the list of Premier League clubs keen on Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, with TEAMtalk reporting that he is also a target for Benfica.
Jorge Jesus, the viper-tongued coach of the Lisbon giants, has left no one in any doubt about his desire to sign a commanding central midfielder in the January transfer window.
Jesus may be asking for a miracle with William Carvalho, however, given that Real Betis are demanding £20 million-plus for a Portugal international who worked with the Benfica boss down the road at Sporting (Record).
And Kamara appears to have emerged as an alternative, and perhaps more affordable, transfer target for the 2019 Primeira Liga champions.
The Finland international produced arguably his finest Rangers performance during the thrilling 3-3 Europa League draw in the Portuguese capital recently, scoring a brilliant long-range goal in the first half.
TEAMtalk now claims that Benfica want to bring him back to the Estadio da Luz on a full-time basis.
They will face plenty of competition, however, with TEAMtalk adding Crystal Palace to a list of suitors longer than the Bayeux Tapestry.
Everton, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and Southampton also want the classy, former Arsenal youngster.
Rangers paid just £100,000 to sign Kamara from Dundee in January 2019 and, if he does depart, the Glasgow giants will earn a massive profit. France Football suggests that the 25-year-old is now valued at around £8 million.
“I obviously knew the player and what you saw against Kilmarnock (in a 5-0 win in February 2019) is why we wanted to bring him in this summer. Thankfully we’ve been able to bring him in early,” Gerrard told Sky last year.
