Crystal Palace are looking to strengthen their goalkeeper options, according to reports, as they battle for Premier League survival.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Crystal Palace are now confident that they will be able to complete a deal to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Diego Lopez during the January transfer window.

Palace are scraping for their lives down the bottom of the Premier League table. Roy Hodgson’s men are currently propping up the division after their draw with Bournemouth at the weekend – and the Eagles boss is clearly hoping to do some shrewd business in January in an attempt to turn their fortunes around.

The Mirror reports that Hodgson is not entirely convinced about either of his two first-choice stoppers, Wayne Hennessey and Julian Speroni, and has identified a potential replacement.

Lopez joined Espanyol on a permanent basis in the summer after an impressive loan spell with the La Liga side, but Hodgson is reportedly confident, according to the Mirror, that he will be able to bring him to Selhurst Park next month.

Lopez has enjoyed a fantastic career in Spain, making over 200 appearances for Villarreal in between two spells with Real Madrid – where he won the La Liga title in his first stint before winning the Champions League after his return.

Crystal Palace host Watford tonight in the Premier League knowing that a victory over the Hornets would see the Eagles fly out of the bottom three until tomorrow at least.
