Crystal Palace are reportedly closing in on Diego Cavalieri.
According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are nearing a deal for goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri after the Brazilian flew into London to reunite with manager Roy Hodgson.
The Eagles lost 3-1 at Everton over the weekend, and are still exploring the market for signings despite signing Jaroslaw Jach, Erdal Rakip and Alexander Sorloth in January.
A new goalkeeper has been on Roy Hodgson’s wish list, and it’s now believed that veteran Cavalieri is heading to London in order to join Palace on a free transfer.
Cavalieri, 35, is no stranger to English football having spent two years with Liverpool, and is available to sign for Palace outside of the transfer window given that he is a free agent after leaving Fluminense in his native Brazil.
Hodgson reunion fills major need
Cavalieri’s move means that he will now reunite with manager Hodgson, having briefly worked together at Liverpool before Cavalieri moved on to Cesena in Italy.
The veteran – who earned three caps for Brazil – never made a Premier League appearance for Liverpool, with his only playing time coming in cup competitions as he offered cover for Pepe Reina.
Palace have been desperate for a new goalkeeper to offer cover for Wayne Hennessey, and spent January attempting to find one, but could only set up a deal for Getafe’s Vicente Guaita to go through this summer.
Cavalieri can now arrive on a free transfer and offer cover until the end of the season, making this a smart, low-risk signing for Palace should the deal go through.
