Everton midfielder James McCarthy is reportedly on Crystal Palace’s radar this summer.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, James McCarthy is the subject of an £8 million bid from Crystal Palace, but Everton are holding out for £10 million for the midfielder this summer.
McCarthy has long looked to be on the way out of Goodison Park, with Marco Silva picking him just once last season despite the Mail reporting that he had been fit since October.
The report notes that the Republic of Ireland international – who is also wanted by Steve Bruce at Newcastle – has one year left on his contract on Merseyside and has not been offered a new deal, so Everton are keen to offload him during this window rather than lose him for nothing next summer.
The Mail reports that Palace’s bid is £2 million short of Everton’s valuation, so it will be interesting to see whether the Toffees decide to hold out for their full asking price or are happy enough with the Eagles’ offer.
Time for Toffees to cash in?
Given that McCarthy has one year left on his contract and has barely played over the last 18 months, it could be deemed a brilliant piece of business for Everton to get £8 million for the 28-year-old.
McCarthy has been a good signing for Everton, but he does not appear to have a future while Silva is at the club. Of course, they should look to hold out for as much money as possible, but if Palace’s offer is a take it or leave it bid and Newcastle are not willing to match them, then the Toffees’ choice is surely a simple one.
