The former Arsenal and Manchester United man is believed to be a genuine target for the Eagles.

Crystal Palace’s first signing under new boss Frank de Boer could be a very ambitious one, as the Eagles are considering making a move for former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie, as reported by The Mirror.

The 33-year-old has supposedly been keen on a return to the Premier League for a fair while now, and isn’t having the best of times with Fenerbahce, who already have a replacement in mind for the former Netherlands international, who scored 50 goals in 101 games for his country.

Van Persie’s record in the Premier League is staggering, with 144 goals in 280 games for both Arsenal and United, and on English soil, the 33-year-old won the Premier League, the FA Cup and two Community Shield trophies.

The Dutchman’s experience alone would be of huge benefit for Palace, but as well as that, it’s clear that he’s still got his scoring touch – with van Persie scoring 36 goals in 82 games for Fenerbahce, including 14 in 34 this season.

What may be a stumbling block is van Persie’s wages, but if Palace can get over that barrier, then they will have excellent competition for Christian Benteke as well as a reliable head to turn to when things start getting tough.

The Eagles finished 14th in the Premier League last season despite only becoming mathematically safe in gameweek 37 of 38, but still finished seven points clear of the final relegation slot, which went to Hull City in the end.
