Newcastle are reportedly keen to re-sign winger Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace.
According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace have held further talks with Newcastle United over a potential deal to send Andros Townsend back to St. James’ Park.
Townsend, 25, left Tottenham Hotspur in January of last year in order to join Newcastle, penning a five-and-a-half year deal with the Magpies having been frozen out at Spurs.
The winger impressed in Newcastle’s battle against relegation, hitting four goals and two assists whilst starring under Rafael Benitez as the Magpies suffered relegation to the Championship.
Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend
Newcastle naturally wanted to keep hold of their pacey winger, but just six months into that lengthy contract, Townsend left St. James’ Park in order to join Crystal Palace, making a quick return to London and the Premier League.
However, England international Townsend has struggled so far this season, as he not only struggled for starts under Alan Pardew, but has also made little impact early into Sam Allardyce’s reign as Eagles boss, meaning he has just one goal and one assist this season.

Palace have now brought in another winger in Jeffrey Schlupp, and could look to cash in on Townsend to fund other signings, with Allardyce’s men just one point clear of bottom club Swansea City – and Townsend may yet be on his way back to Newcastle.
The Daily Mail claimed over the weekend that Championship leaders Newcastle were interested in luring Townsend back to the North East during this month’s transfer window, with Benitez keen to add another winger.
Now, the Daily Mail claim that further talks have been held between the two clubs, with a surprise transfer seemingly in the pipeline for the winger, just six months after he left St. James’ Park.
Dropping into the Championship may be a gamble for Townsend, but with Newcastle looking like favourites for promotion, he could be back in the top flight in no time, and the chance to return to the club where he enjoyed great, if brief, success could be appealing to the wide man.
