Crystal Palace are reportedly hoping to win the race to sign Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer.
According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are making a £15million move to sign Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer in an attempt to beat Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion to his signature.
Wimmer, 24, joined Spurs from Koln in the summer of 2015 having impressed in Germany, but he has struggled for first-team football under Mauricio Pochettino.
In just over two years with Spurs, Wimmer has played just 15 Premier League games, mostly serving as the left-footed cover for Jan Vertonghen in the heart of the Tottenham defence.
The Austrian international needs first-team football though, and the Daily Mail now report that Crystal Palace are making a £15million move to land Wimmer before this month’s transfer deadline, as Frank de Boer looks to strengthen his defence.
De Boer did bring in Jairo Riedewald and Timothy Fosu-Mensah to boost his back line, but both are still finding their feet in the Premier League, and adding Wimmer could bring some balance on the left hand side of defence.
It’s claimed that Tottenham ideally want £20million for Wimmer, but they are happy to sell for £15million plus add-ons having splashed the cash on new centre back Davinson Sanchez last week.
The report notes that Stoke City are interested in Wimmer and West Brom have even made a bid to sign him, but Palace are now lining up a late move to hijack their Premier League rivals.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will be keen to spark a bidding war for the defender, who seemingly has no future with Tottenham – and staying in London with Palace may be appealing to Wimmer as he seeks playing time.
