Djourou was expected to sign for Sheffield Wednesday last August, and could now be a target for Swansea City.
Swansea City are among the clubs being credited with interest in Johan Djourou, five months after the Swiss’s move to Sheffield Wednesday collapsed.
It was reported by the Sheffield Star in August that Djourou had passed a medical at Wednesday – then managed by Swansea’s Carlos Carvalhal – and was expected to complete a move to Hillsborough the following day.
Within 24 hours, however, the newspaper announced that the deal had in fact collapsed, and Djourou instead signed for Antalyaspor the following week.
According to Blick, however, Djourou’s time in Turkey could be coming to an end. The website writes that the Antalyaspor ‘project’ has failed, with its president and coaches gone and the team fighting relegation.
It adds the club can no longer afford big name players such as Samir Nasri and Jeremy Menez – who has been sold to Mexico’s Club America – while Djourou has received his wage ‘only partially and irregularly’.
Antalyaspor are said to want to keep him, although the player’s agent, Costa Bonato, explains: “Johan stays, even though Antalyaspor owes him a lot of money, but only if the wage is guaranteed.
“[If not] then we whistle on this money, if Johan [is] allowed to go on a free transfer.”
According to Blick, Swansea – along with Swiss sides Sion and Lausanne – are showing interest in the 31-year-old, who has only played six times in Turkey due to injury, and, his agent says, wants to play at the World Cup.
