West Bromwich Albion could bring back Craig Shakespeare.
According to The Mirror, Craig Shakespeare is now a ‘strong contender’ to return to West Bromwich Albion as support for James Shan.
The Baggies hammered Preston North End 4-1 on Saturday afternoon, with interim boss Shan responding well to successive away defeats at Millwall and Bristol City.
The game was somewhat strange though, as North End boss Alex Neil was in the away dugout despite claims that he was being lined up to replace Shan ahead of the playoffs.
Sadly for West Brom, Neil committed his future to Preston on Sunday, penning a new three-year deal to stay at Deepdale whilst leaving the Baggies frustrated.
Now, Shan has been given the job until the end of the season, but an experienced coach alongside him is wanted, and an ex-Baggie appears to be a favourite for the job.
The Mirror report that Shakespeare is a strong contender to return to The Hawthorns, having already had spells with the club as a player in the 90’s and as a coach and even caretaker manager.
Shakespeare, 55, has managerial experience with Leicester City as well as vast coaching experience, having joined up with Sam Allardyce for stints with England and Everton.
Now out of work for almost a year, Shakespeare could return to the game with West Brom – but many will be left wondering just why Darren Moore was sacked if this was the plan.
