Former West Bromwich Albion player and coach Craig Shakespeare could be appointed as the Baggies’ U23 coach to replace Michael Appleton.

West Bromwich Albion could hire Craig Shakespeare as their new U23 coach with the former Leicester City manager spotted in the stands as The Baggies’ youngsters beat Swansea on Monday, as reported by the Express and Star.
The Championship table-toppers were left in limbo when Michael Appleton departed his post to take over at League One Lincoln City in September and West Brom have been without a coach for their reserve team ever since.
But things could soon change. Shakespeare was in attendance as a Kenneth Zohore double downed the Swans 2-0 last night and the Express and Star believes he could be handed his first job in 17 months.
Shakespeare was last seen assisting Sam Allardyce during his short-lived spell as Everton coach until May 2018, two years after he helped Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City pull off a miracle and lift the Premier League title.

The Birmingham-born 58-year-old certainly has a history with West Brom. He made over 100 appearances for the Midland giants as a player between 1990-1993 and even acted as caretaker manager after Nigel Pearson had been sacked in 2006.
Diomansy Kamara and Zoltan Gera scored as West Brom beat Crystal Palace 2-0 away in Shakespeare’s only game in charge. And, 13 years on, a boyhood fan could be about to make an emotional return to the Hawthorns.
