Everton have been linked with a move for the striker, who is currently owned by Chelsea.

Gonzalo Higuain’s arrival at Chelsea will spark Michy Batshuayi’s departure from Stamford Bridge – but the Belgian striker will not be joining Everton, according to one report.

Everton have been linked with a move for Batshuayi, who has spent the first half of this season on loan to Valencia.

But the Sun states the 25-year-old will head to Monaco on another temporary deal, with Higuain expected to become a Chelsea player later on Tuesday.

The newspaper’s claim does, however, appear to contradict comments made by the Monaco vice-president, Vadim Vasilyev, earlier this week.

In quotes published by the Liverpool Echo, Vasilyev – whose side sit second-from-bottom of Ligue 1 – said of the alleged Everton target: “We have an agreement with the player and with Valencia but not with Chelsea.

“They want a permanent transfer. Everything could go very quickly in football so we’ll see.”

Having already loaned one Chelsea player this season, Everton could only borrow Batshuayi were they to either terminate or make permanent Kurt Zouma’s deal, in accordance with Premier League rules.

Batshuayi has only scored three goals in 23 games for Valencia this campaign, but has previously enjoyed prolific spells at Borussia Dortmund, Marseille and Standard Liege.
