According to Calciomercato, Antonio Conte wanted to bring Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs pursued a deal to make Conte their new manager last week, but the move ended up collapsing over the weekend.

Tottenham are going back to the drawing board in their search for a new manager, but details are emerging over who Conte wanted.

Conte is a huge McKennie fan, waned him at Tottenham

It’s stated that Conte admires Juve ace McKennie, and would have been one of the Italian’s first transfer demands wherever he went.

Real Madrid or Tottenham, it didn’t matter for Conte; he wanted McKennie and would have pushed for him to join either club.

With neither of them appointing Conte, McKennie remains ‘an idea’ for him, and it may be something we see materialise in the future.

How did McKennie fare last season?

McKennie joined Juve on loan from Schalke last summer, but the deal was turned permanent in March having impressed in Turin.

The American international has been hailed as ‘very powerful’ and ‘relentless’ by United States Under-20 coach Tab Ramos, and he made a big impression on Andrea Pirlo last season.

It’s unclear whether Juve would have even wanted to sell McKennie, but Tottenham have missed out on seeing Conte and McKennie team up in North London.
