The Evening Standard claim (Monday, 6.15PM) that Antonio Conte has decided to block the loan exit of Harvey White despite interest – as Tottenham close in on the departures of four senior midfielders.
So far on deadline day, Spurs have waved goodbye to Bryan Gil, Gio Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele. Gil has joined Valencia on loan without a permanent clause, while Lo Celso and Ndombele also depart on loan.
Lo Celso has moved to Villarreal and Ndombele to Lyon – both with permanent options. Dele Alli is expected to complete a permanent move to Everton, with Frank Lampard proving crucial in talks for the England ace.
With three gone and Dele likely to make it four on deadline day, Conte has chosen to block the exit of 20-year-old White. That is, despite Hull, Stoke, Luton, Portsmouth and Sunderland all showing interest in the midfielder.
White to stay at Tottenham: Could he get a chance under Conte?
White is a superb talent. While he has failed to make a single appearance for the senior side this season, the Under-23 skipper has had a hand in 14 goals from the middle of the park. His versatility is also a big option.
He can play left-back, left wing or in the middle of the park as a box-to-box eight, or a more-defensive option. Spurs do have Oliver Skipp, Harry Winks, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and new signing Rodrigo Bentancur.
But an injury to one or two of those players and White is an easy inclusion on the bench. He has warmed the bench on six occasions this season in all competitions.
