Antonio Conte has given the green light for Inter Milan to sell Marcelo Brozovic with the reported Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United target seemingly available for transfer, according to Calciomercato.

Less than 12 months ago, the former Chelsea and Juventus boss was tipping Brozovic to become a “world class” central midfielder – Inter’s answer to Andrea Pirlo perhaps.

Fast forward to the present day, however, with football’s financial fallout forcing even the biggest clubs to slash budgets and sell talent, and Brozovic is in danger of becoming a sacrificial lamb, slain in honour of the Financial Fair Play gods.

Multiple reports this month suggested the 27-year-old would be put up for sale and Calciomercato is now backing these claims up.

The Italian website even states Conte has agreed to Brozovic’s sale, believing the younger and quicker Stefano Sensi can take his place in Inter’s midfield.

Tottenham are interested in that sort of all-action dynamo, who looks tailor-made for a Jose Mourinho team – especially a Spurs side lacking control, energy and precision at the heart of a once-brilliant engine room.

According to Jutarnji List, Spurs made a £38 million bid for the Croatian two years ago.

And while the prospect of Brozovic swapping the Serie A runners-up for crisis-riddled West Ham might elicit a quizzical glance, the Premier League’s perennial underachievers have a track record when it comes to making eye-catching marquee signings – see Sebastian Haller, Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko and co.

Brozovic has two years left on his contract and perhaps Inter think this is their last chance to get top dollar for a man at the peak of his powers.
