The Crystal Palace striker was a reported target for the Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis five years ago.
Connor Wickham could make a January move to Middlesbrough if Crystal Palace can land Jermain Defoe from Bournemouth, according to the Sunday Mirror (December 16, page 65).
Defoe has sruggled for game time at Bournemouth this season and continues to be linked with a loan to Palace, whose strikers have yet to score a single Premier League goal in that time.
But one of those, Wickham, has only played a minute of league football, having sat out the best part of two years with a cruciate ligament injury.
And a temporary spell away from Selhurst Park could be beneficial for both Crystal Palace and the 25-year-old.
The Daily Mirror has previously reported that the Middlesbrough manager, Tony Pulls, tried to sign Wickham while in charge of Palace in January 2014.
But it was not until the following summer, during Alan Pardew’s reign as Eagles boss, that Wickham eventually arrived in a £9 million deal from Sunderland.
