Italian website Milan Live claim Lille defender Sven Botman has decided to reject offers from both Newcastle and now Tottenham, in favour of a move to Milan. The Dutchman has been strongly linked with both English clubs.
Botman, 22, has been sensational since completing an £8million move from Ajax to Lille in the summer of 2020. He produced some wonderful displays in the 2020-21 campaign, as Lille went on to beat PSG to the Ligue 1 title.
This season, that form has continued – even adding goals to his game. He has netted all three of his Lille strikes in 20 top-tier French outings during 21-22. Newcastle really wanted to sign him in the January transfer window.
But a move failed to materialise – Newcastle signing Dan Burn. The Toon remain keen, while Tottenham are also linked – but Milan Live say offers from the English duo have been ‘returned to sender’ by the left-footed star.
Newcastle, Tottenham bids rejected: Botman looks set to join Milan
It is a huge blow for both Newcastle and Tottenham. Botman is likely to leave Lille for a figure less than £40million come the end of the season, a bargain given a player of his quality. Jose Fonte said he is “composed”.
Newcastle will be able to offer him a financial package that Milan would not be able to – while Spurs could offer him Champions League football come the summer. But a move to Milan and Italy looks more than likely.
