Fabricio Coloccini is reportedly set to leave Newcastle United for San Lorenzo in the summer transfer window.
Fabricio Coloccini is leaving Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Mail.
Coloccini has been on the books of Newcastle since 2008 and has a contract until June 2017, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
However, it has been reported that the 34-year-old central defender is leaving Newcastle for Argentine club San Lorenzo this summer.
The Daily Mail has quoted San Lorenzo head coach Diego Aguirre as saying: “Coloccini will be very welcome. He will bring much to the club on and off the field.”
Newcastle got relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 campaign and will feature in the Championship next season.
Coloccini scored one goal and created three chances in 26 Premier League appearances for the Magpies during the 2015-16 season.
The Argentine defender had a pass accuracy of 83% and a shot accuracy of 43%, and won 32 headers, four dribbles and 32 tackles.
It is clear that Coloccini is past his prime, and he could struggle with the physicality and the rigours of the Championship next season.
It is best that the former Deportivo La Coruna centre-back leaves Newcastle, who will be aiming to finish in the top two of the Championship next season.
