West Ham defender James Collins has been sidelined since September 16 with an ankle injury.

West Ham United defender James Collins suffered another injury on his comeback for the Under-23’s on Tuesday night, but the London Evening Standard claim it is only a “minor setback”.
The 34-year-old has been sidelined since September after injuring his ankle in the 0-0 draw against West Bromwich Albion, but had been deemed fit enough to start in Terry Westley’s side on Tuesday night.

However, just 24 minutes into the Hammers’ Checkatrade Trophy clash against League Two side Wycombe Wanderers, Collins was withdrawn with what appeared to be a hamstring injury – different to his previous ankle problem.
Now, the report claims former Aston Villa defender Collins was only removed from the field of play midway through the first half as a precaution, as Westley’s side suffered a 2-0 loss thank to goals from Will de Havilland and Sido Jombati.

The report states Collins “is not expected to face much too much longer on the sidelines”, but the injury will still frustrate manager David Moyes who is likely to have pencilled in Collins’s first-team return against Man City on Sunday.
Jose Fonte remains out until the new year, leaving the former Manchester United and Everton manager with just Winston Reid and Angelo Ogbonna as options at centre-back. However, he will not have to wait much longer for Collins’ return.
