According to the Daily Mail, Sunderland are still hopeful of securing a loan deal for Liverpool talent Ben Woodburn after a recent delay over the potential move.

The Black Cats sit bottom of the Championship table after losing 4-0 to Cardiff City over the weekend, with manager Chris Coleman in desperate need of reinforcements.

Yet, with a limited budget at his disposal, Coleman may have to rely on bargains and loan deals this month, and he is hopeful of reuniting with one Premier League talent.

The Daily Mail report that Sunderland are still hopeful of bringing in Liverpool winger Ben Woodburn on loan, having so far been delayed in their attempts to land the teenager.

Sunderland had been hoping to tie up a deal earlier this month, but Philippe Coutinho’s exit to Barcelona means Liverpool have delayed Woodburn’s exit whilst manager Jurgen Klopp assesses his options.

Coleman worked with Woodburn in the Wales setup, handing him his international debut and five more caps as the teenager clearly made an impression.

The 18-year-old has made just one first-team appearance this season though, and Liverpool appear to still be considering whether to loan him out for the second half of the season or not.

A relegation battle may not be what Liverpool have in mind for Woodburn, but with just over two weeks to go until the transfer deadline, Sunderland appear to be holding onto hope regarding a loan deal for Woodburn.
