According to The Mirror, Sunderland are interested in snapping up Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes during the January transfer window.
The Black Cats moved to appoint Chris Coleman as their new manager in November, replacing Simon Grayson, and the Welshman has kicked off with two wins, two draws and two defeats from his six games in charge.
Sunderland need reinforcements in January, and with question marks over the future of loan goal machine Lewis Grabban, another striker may be on Coleman’s wish list for the transfer window.

Now, The Mirror now report that Sunderland boss Coleman wants to land Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes in January, offering him a move away from Hillsborough.
Rhodes, 27, has struggled to live up to his billing with Wednesday, scoring just three times in 20 games last season, as well as five goals in 21 games in all competitions this term.
The Scotland international has been in and out of the Wednesday side under now-sacked boss Carlos Carvalhal, and Sunderland are seemingly prepared to hand him a move to Wearside next month.
However, whether Sunderland have the funds to pull off such a deal remains to be seen, given that a permanent deal would cost millions, and even a loan move would factor in Rhodes’ wages.
As a proven Championship striker with 83 goals in 159 games for Blackburn Rovers, Rhodes could be a goalscorer for Sunderland in their battle at the bottom, but a deal seems difficult.
