Roberto Martinez believes Everton’s approach for him is ‘unique’ compared to previous proposals from the likes of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
According to Belgian publication HLN, the former Everton boss is one of the options to replace Rafa Benitez after the Spaniard was sacked over the weekend following a damming 2-1 loss to Norwich City.
Martinez is expected to lead the Belgium national team to Qatar at the end of this year, however, as per the report, an approach from Everton could see the former Wigan Athletic coach return to Merseyside.
The former Toffees manager was sacked in 2016 after a 12th place finish and a large portion of the Everton fanbase turning on Martinez for poor performances and results. However, it appears that the 48-year-old could be open to a return.
As per HLN, Martinez has, over the years, had approaches from the likes of Barcelona, Madrid, Arsenal and Tottenham. However, this recent proposal from Everton is ‘unique’ given his links to the club.
Indeed, it would be a stunning decision if Martinez was to return to Everton given his commitments to Belgium as well as the manner in which the coach left the Premier League side five years ago.
Martinez approach is another calamitous decision from Everton

Benitez’s sacking from Everton was earmarked by many football fans at the start of the season as a certain to happen. And with Martinez in line to replace his fellow countryman, it almost feels like it will be another marriage doomed to fail.
Everton have previously tried and failed with Martinez in the past. And whilst the coach has succeeded with Belgium in recent years, the Toffees simply need to take a new change in direction with who they appoint to replace Benitez.
