According to Footmercato, Rennes and AC Milan have joined the race to sign reported Everton defensive target Jean-Clair Todibo.

The Barcelona man spent the season on loan at Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga.

The German club have seemingly given up trying to take Todibo on a permanent basis, with Barcelona seeking a fee in the region of £22.5 million.

Todibo has made big strides and his potential has prompted plenty of interest.

A report by Sport last month claimed Everton have made an offer to sign him this summer.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side must look at strengthening their defence after an inconsistent campaign from the likes of Michael Keane and former Barcelona man Yerry Mina.

But since Everton’s reported offer, a deal to the Merseyside club has yet to materialise.

Now, the latest reporters from France claim two more clubs are ‘rushing’ to sign him.

Rennes are keen to bolster their squad ahead of a Champions League campaign next term. Mohamed Salisu and Axel Disasi are options, but both could move to the Premier League.

Milan, meanwhile, are desperate to rediscover their top form. The Serie A giants are taking a new approach to signings, bringing in younger players with big potential.

Todibo, 20, is quick, strong in the tackle and classy in possession.

If the latest reports are true, then the Toffees may have to swiftly if they are to secure one of their reported top summer targets ahead of the competition.
