Luka Jovic was one Europe’s most sought out strikers last summer. The Serbian scored 27 goals in all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, and that earned him a sensational £52 million move to Real Madrid. (Sky Sports)

A lot was expected of Jovic at the Spanish capital this season. The 22-year-old was tipped to be the heir to Karim Benzema’s throne but it’s the Frenchman who has remained the King of the Bernabeu.

Jovic has scored just twice all season. That is unacceptable for a player who cost in excess of £50 million, especially at an ever-demanding club like Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane seems to have had enough of the Serbian. The Daily Star claimed last week that Real Madrid were willing to let him leave for just £31 million, almost a 40% discount on his price in about a year’s time.

The report claimed that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers wants him at the King Power next season. The Foxes scouted him extensively according to the report and feel that he would be a brilliant signing for them.

Leicester will be in a European competition next season. The Foxes can’t rely on Jamie Vardy every game which makes signing Jovic a very smart move. However, Rodgers’ side are set to face some stiff competition for the Serbian’s signature.

Marca claim that Hertha Berlin have joined the race for Jovic this summer. The German outfit, now backed by multi-millionaire Lars Windhorst, are aiming to compete with the top teams in the Bundesliga, and they are ready to be ambitious in the transfer market to do so.

That poses a big threat to Leicester if their reported interest in Jovic is serious. The Foxes will stick to Vardy as their first choice and the Serbian, should he come in, will not be the main man.

Jovic, after his terrible spell in Spain, might also look for familiar surroundings to get back to his best. He made his name in the Bundesliga and a potential return there might just convince him.

However, Leicester are right to target a player of Jovic’s calibre this summer. He can play alongside Vardy and if he can get back to his best, he is the ideal successor to the Englishman once he decides to hang up his boots.
