On paper, Tottenham Hotspur had a sensational transfer window last summer. Mauricio Pochettino brought in Ryan Sessegnon, Giovani Lo Celso and paid a club-record £53.8 million to sign Tanguy Ndombele. (BBC)

The Frenchman was deemed to be one of the best young players in world football last year and he started off brilliantly. Ndombele scored a stunner on his Premier League debut but, sadly for him, things have gone downhill since.

Pochttino’s departure and Mourinho’s appointment was bad news for the former Lyon man. Ndombele and the new Spurs boss have had their problems and it seems like the Frenchman’s Tottenham career is over after just one year.

Sky Italia claim that Italian giants Inter Milan have begun talks with Tottenham over a deal to sign Ndombele in the coming weeks.

The Nerazzurri have been following the Frenchman for quite some time, and it looks like they are very serious about securing a deal for him this summer.

The current financial climate has made it very difficult for most clubs to spend big on transfers. Inter Milan, as wealthy as they are, could face the same problem and, as a result, they are open to offering a player in exchange to get Ndombele.

One of Marcelo Brozovic, Ivan Perisic or Milan Skriniar could be offered in a swap deal according to the report and Mourinho might be genuinely pleased with any one of them.

The Spurs boss has wanted to sign Perisic since his days at Manchester United. Brozovic, on the other hand, could be a sensational signing for Spurs thanks to his positional discipline and versatility across central midfield.

However, the most eye-catching deal would be to get Skriniar for Ndombele. The Slovakian was recently regarded by many as one of the best centre-halves in world football.

Skriniar, still only 25, has all the qualities to be a top defender and who better than Mourinho to help him reach the next level?

Antonio Conte hasn’t been too impressed by Skriniar’s performances this term according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The same report claims that Inter are willing to offload him if they get an offer of about £45 million, which arguably is about the same as what Ndombele is worth now.

Losing Ndombele after just one season would certainly be a shame. However, if Spurs can get someone like Skriniar, or even Brozovic, in exchange, it could prove to be a brilliant piece of business by this time next year.
