Spanish outlet El Desmarque claim Valencia wanted a permanent clause in their loan deal for Tottenham star Bryan Gil. However, Spurs informed Valencia it would be ‘very high’ and ‘not worth it’ before his move.
Gil, 20, failed to score for Tottenham in 20 appearances during the first half of the season – after his move from Sevilla, a deal which cost Spurs a fee of £21.6million and Erik Lamela. He has failed to live up to the hype so far.
With Dejan Kulusevski coming in, Spurs allowed Gil to move to Valencia on loan until the end of the season. He has impressed in his first two outings, a Cup win over Eibar and a 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad on Sunday.
Gil is on loan without a permanent clause, but Valencia wanted a buy option. However, Spurs informed Valencia – who are paying Gil around £33,000 a week – that it was not be worth it due to Spurs wanting a big fee.
Valencia wanted Gil clause: Tottenham have made right decision
That is proven by his two performances for Valencia at this stage. He has sparkled against Eibar in a 2-1 Copa Del Rey win, and a decent 0-0 draw against Sociedad. El Desmarque say he is Valencia’s ‘new idol’.
To include a permanent clause, and with Gil shining at Valencia, a permanent exit of the highly-rated star would be a possibility. Tottenham do not want to lose him, even despite his tricky early months in North London.
