ADO Den Haag want to sign Leeds United’s forgotten man Jay-Roy Grot but only if the Yorkshire giants are willing to let him leave Elland Road on a free transfer, according to AD.

When Leeds announced their 25-man Premier League squad back in October, the inclusion of a seldom-seen striker certainly raised an eyebrow or two.

But that didn’t mean Grot – a man not seen in that famous white shirt since 2018 – was about to embark on a Matuesz Klich-style resurgence at the top-flight newcomers.

Grot has been nowhere to be seen this season, failing to make a single appearance under Marcelo Bielsa.

He wasn’t even included in the squad as a largely second-string side lost 3-0 to Crawley Town in the FA Cup on Sunday.

According to AD, a £1.5 million forward who joined Leeds during the short-lived Thomas Christiansen era is now back in the Netherlands, training with ADO Den Haag a few days a week.

The Eredivisie strugglers are keen to add Grot to their playing staff. The report, however, says that no deal will be done unless Leeds agree to cancel the final six months of his contract.

They might as well, given that Grot is due to become a free-agent in July anyway. At the moment, the former Groningen youngster is little more than a drain on Leeds’ resources.

Grot scored just twice in 22 matches on loan at Vitesse Arnhem last season and, in truth, it seems unlikely that he is capable of firing ADO to safety.
