According to L’Equipe and Le10 Sport, Paris Saint-Germain have concerns about the €7million salary Alphonse Areola earns ahead of his return.
It’s claimed that PSG don’t fancy taking those wages – around £120,000-a-week – back into the books as his Real Madrid loan spell comes to an end.
Areola headed on loan to Real as part of PSG’s deal to sign Keylor Navas. The 27-year-old managed just eight appearances this season, failing to displace Thibaut Courtois.
He’ll now head back to PSG, but they don’t particularly want him. They have even lined up a replacement, targeting AC Milan’s Pepe Reina, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa.
The task for PSG is now to find a buyer for Areola. It seems unlikely that a club will want to take over those wages, though Arsenal have been linked of late.
Mundo Deportivo recently claimed that the Gunners want to sign Areola, placing him ahead of Barcelona’s Neto on their wish list.

The problem is that Arsenal already have Bernd Leno. Areola wouldn’t displace him, and there’s no way Arsenal can take on £120,000-a-week for a backup.
Emiliano Martinez is still at the club too, so it’s hard to see a deal for Areola materialising. PSG wanting to let him go does help, but Arsenal striking such a deal seems unlikely.
