According to Sky Sports, Lille would prefer to keep Amadou Onana, but feel they cannot reject what West Ham are offering.

What’s the story?

Well, the Hammers have finally agreed a €40m (£33m) fee with the French side, after a prolonged transfer saga.

That is a huge amount of money to spend on a 20-year-old, and despite the fact Lille are reluctant to sell their £6,000-a-week man, they supposedly feel they will never receive a better offer for him.

Onana will now travel to London to undergo a medical with West Ham, and put pen to paper on a contract.

Liverpool were also said to be keen on the Belgium international.

However, David Moyes seems desperate to get his hands on Onana, and he has now edged one step closer to doing so after a fee was finally agreed with Lille.

Interest in the Belgian comes after he made 41 appearances in all competitions for Lille last season, scoring three goals while also providing one assist.

West Ham could have a superstar in Amadou Onana

In our view, Lille may actually be in the wrong here – there is no reason why Onana cannot become a £60m player in a year or two.

At the age of just 20, he has already received international recognition for Belgium, while also making eight appearances in the Champions League.

Standing at 6ft 4in, and with physical traits which defy his age, Onana could be a genuine force for West Ham alongside Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.

It is also a clever move from the Hammers, as it means they already have a replacement for Rice ahead of a potentially difficult summer in 2023, where he will have just 12 months remaining on his contract.

Keep an eye on this situation, as an official announcement should come shortly after Onana passes his medical.
