According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona want to sell Philippe Coutinho to the Premier League as they desperately look to raise funds.

What’s the story?

Well, the Spanish giants are struggling financially, and need to get Coutinho away from the Camp Nou.

Why? Well, in the £142 million deal agreed with Liverpool, there were a number of performance-related bonuses.

Barcelona must pay Liverpool €20 million (£17.2 million) if Coutinho plays ten more games for the club.

They must also hand Jürgen Klopp’s side €5 million (£4.3 million) if they win the Champions League.

Mundo Deportivo are claiming that Barcelona don’t have this money to spare, and want to sell the Brazilian to the Premier League.

They feel their best bet of offloading the £165,000-a-week burden is by sending him to England’s top-flight, where many a wealthy club reside.

Interestingly, there could be a deal here for Liverpool.

According to SPORT, the 29-year-old wants to end his Barcelona nightmare with a return to Anfield.

Leicester want the South American on a season-long loan.

However, Coutinho seemingly has his heart set on rejoining Liverpool.

Now, in our view, there’s an opportunity here for the Reds.

With €25 million (£21.5 million) in variables still to pay Liverpool, Barcelona could potentially offer the Reds a discount for a permanent deal.

If Klopp wants Coutinho back, it is helpful that Barcelona still owe Liverpool so much money.

The Reds can use that to their advantage.

Michael Edwards could offer to waive the £21.5 million in exchange for a huge discount, something that may tempt the cash-strapped Catalans.
