The on-loan Rangers midfielder Bongani Zungu extended his Amiens contract before moving to Ibrox, The Scotsman understands.
If true, that almost certainly ends any Rangers hope of a free transfer deal next summer, as had been speculated (Kickoff).
Rangers say they have an option to make Zungu’s move permanent at the end of this season, although that will require a fee being paid, according to The Scotsman.
Amiens’ statement fails to mention such an option, however, nor any changes to Zungu’s contract.
And it is unclear when the South African’s deal with the French side will now expire – although a one-year extension seems to most likely outcome.
Amiens were rumoured to have asked for €4 million (around £3.65m) for Zungu this summer (L’Equipe) – a time when the 27-year-old’s had less than a year left to run.

And Rangers may have fewer qualms about spending that amount if Zungu impresses for them this season.
After the dust settled on his transfer, Zungu sent the following message to fans of both Rangers and Amiens on Instagram:
