Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of signing Samuel Umtiti from Barcelona may be fading fast, if the latest reports in Gianluca Di Marzio are anything to go by.

Barcelona are believed to be hoping to use Umtiti in a swap deal to bring Memphis Depay to the Nou Camp.

That could be a blow to Tottenham, as they had seemingly been lining up a move for the French defender for some time.

Sky claimed that Spurs were hunting the £27 million-rated centre-back (Sport) back in April, but they have been unable to get a deal over the line so far.

And it seems that Tottenham may have missed their chance to sign Umtiti now, if he is used in a swap deal.

That could be a blow to Spurs, as Jose Mourinho’s side still appear to be on the hunt for another centre-back.

Spurs have strengthened in goal, defensive midfield and right-back, which should make them a harder team to break down next term.

But Mourinho may still have his eyes on bringing in another central defender before the deadline passes.
