West Ham United are ‘confident’ of being able to sign Shane Duffy from Brighton & Hove Albion ahead of Celtic, the London Evening Standard report.
The Daily Record has explained how Celtic are keen to land Duffy, but West Ham think the central defender is going to end up at the London Stadium.
If Duffy does sign for West Ham he could offer valuable experience to their backline, especially as David Moyes thinks has said he is an ‘excellent’ player (SportsMole) before.
The Irish centre-back, who is 28, has been a regularly member of Brighton’s first-team, but has lost his place more recently due to Graham Potter’s possession based approach.
Duffy has many qualities defensive, but is not the strongest on the ball, which has led to Brighton making him available.
If he does sign for West Ham it could be a blow to Celtic, who will likely have to look at other potential targets.
Neil Lennon appears to want to add a central defender this summer to provide competition for both Kristoffer Ajer and Christopher Jullien.
At West Ham, Duffy will be in competition with Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna for a first-team place.
