The Dayot Upamecano to Arsenal rumours are about to crop up again it looks like.

The Gunners have been tentatively linked with a move for the Leipzig centre-back in recent months.

But Football London reported in May that Arsenal wouldn’t be able to afford his £35 million transfer fee.

That being said, the North Londoners are reportedly in the race and if rumours are believed, they’re even ahead of AC Milan.

According to Tuttosport, Arsenal have ‘overtaken’ the Italian giants in the race to sign the 21-year-old defender, who’s heavily linked with a departure from Germany.

The report adds that the ‘mockery’ is doubled because it’s Ivan Gazidis, Arsenal’s former chief executive, who’s losing to his old club in the Upamecano stakes.

Is it true?

Probably not and it goes back to what FL reported, that Arsenal couldn’t afford him.

Goal.com reported last month that the Emirates Stadium club are facing losses of £144 million if the 2020-21 campaign is played behind closed doors.

This means that Arsenal probably won’t be committing to big-money deals before the financial landscape is a little clearer.

As exciting as it is to believe that the Gunners are about to get one over on Gazidis, an unpopular figure during his time at the club, it isn’t a matter of fact right now.
