According to Mundo Deportivo, Ousmane Dembele has been told to make a decision on his future this month, amid interest from Tottenham.
What’s the story?
Well, Barcelona are getting tired of the contract situation involving the Frenchman, and will soon pursue Raheem Sterling as a replacement if Dembele doesn’t make a decision.
Interestingly, that could bring Arsenal into the situation, as Calciomercato revealed that the Gunners have made a bid for Sterling.
Mundo Deportivo believe Dembele and his agent – Moussa Sissoko – initially gave a positive response to talks, but things have stalled.
It comes amid talk that Newcastle have offered the 24-year-old a €15m-a-year (£12.7m) contract, as well as a £12.7m bonus if he runs his contract down and joins as a free agent.
It was 90min who claimed that Tottenham are interested in Dembele, so there are at least two Premier League clubs eyeing the winger.
Tottenham could infuriate Arsenal
Spurs would have bragging rights for a brief period in north London if they managed to sign Dembele, and ruined Arsenal’s Sterling hopes in the process.
The World Cup winner is a fantastic forward – Barcelona didn’t spend £135.5m on him as a 20-year-old for no reason.
If Fabio Paratici manage to hand Nuno Espirito Santo the ex-Borussia Dortmund man, it would be a fantastic signing.
However, Spurs must be wary of Newcastle’s riches.
As we know, Daniel Levy isn’t the most free-spending owner out there, so we feel it’s unlikely he’d match Newcastle’s mega €30m (£25m) offer.
Especially given the fact Dembele has missed 96 games for Barcelona due to injuries – Levy surely won’t splash the cash on an injury prone player.
Keep your eyes on this situation, as it seems very likely Dembele will be leaving Spain with his contract set to expire in June.
