Sevilla will refuse to sell Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal target Diego Carlos for a penny less than his £63 million release clause and, according to La Nervion, a new contract is also being prepared.

Sevilla’s sporting director is pretty much the flesh and blood embodiment of the ‘buy low, sell high’ policy and, after making huge profits on the likes of Dani Alves, Ivan Rakitic and Wissam Ben Yedder, that old trick could be repeated once again.
According to The Telegraph, Jose Mourinho is a big fan of rock solid centre-back Carlos and would love to sign the Brazilian to fill a Jan Vertonghen-shaped void in his Spurs backline.
El Desmarque, meanwhile, reported in May that Spurs face competition from north London rivals Arsenal for the signature of a man who swapped Nantes for Andalusia for as little as £13 million a year ago.
But with both Arsenal and Tottenham a little short of cash these days for a variety of reasons (see, football’s financial crisis, the lack of Champions League football, the debt accrued by building a brand new stadium) do not expect to see the steel-coated Carlos in the Premier League any time soon.
Sevilla will only sell if someone takes his future out of their hands – essentially, by triggering that very prohibitive £63 million release clause.
What’s more Carlos could also be tied down to an all-new contract. Considering that he currently has a deal until 2024, you would imagine that any fresh terms would either remove or increase that already hefty clause.
